Building on the Gospel account of Martha and Mary, Sister Eileen Hurley identified the need to balance prayer and ministry. “We have a ministry of presence, service, collaboration, compassion and caring,” she said. “Let us continue to deepen our gift of courageous charity in who we are and what we do.” During the morning, Charity Federation members discussed the criteria and process for creating a new Federation ministry, such as the House of Charity, New Orleans. Ideas generated will be discussed further at congregational meetings and then by the Board of Directors.

The group received a report from Rendu Services, a collaborative of three member congregations. Sister Julie Cutter, DC, executive director, reported on the past year from the perspective of collaborations and interactions she has had. Afternoon – Day 3 “Open space” discussions around topics of interest occupied the afternoon.

Groups met and then reported to the entire gathering on topics including Water With Blessings; communication with Church leaders; the possibility of a new House of Charity type initiative in the Northeast; systemic thinking; and review of the investment portfolio. Evening – Day 3 Following two days full of meetings and reports, Charity Federation members got a “taste of Kansas City.” They visited the adjoining Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and American Jazz Museum, Kansas City, Mo.; enjoyed barbecue; and were entertained by the music of jazz legend Bobby Watson and his band.
