Position Summary: The Director is responsible for creating, directing and implementing effective fundraising strategies and initiatives to bring benefactors and prospects to participate in the mission of the Congregation in a meaningful way. This highly visible management position is responsible for working with the Leadership Team to integrate and direct the following primary development functions: the Annual Fund, identifying, targeting and when appropriate soliciting major donors, develop acquisition strategies, cultivation of all benefactors, grant administration planned giving and bequests.

This position will require evening work, weekends and some travel. Principal Responsibilities: Direct all aspects of the Congregations fundraising including annual, capital and planned giving efforts and the administration and reporting of Development activities. Oversee the creation and implementation of a gift management plan focusing on major gift donors and those qualified to become major gift donors.

When appropriate, actively participate in donor visits. Work closely with Board of Trustees, Sisters and others to identify, target and cultivate new major donors. Facilitate a Development Strategic Plan and implement both short and long term development plans.

Develop and maintain an organizational structure within the department providing leadership, management and administrative skills that motivate and build professional staff competencies. Working in collaboration with Director of Communications, effectively promote development to the internal and external constituencies.

Collaborate with Leadership to develop funding priorities, outline annual plans and achieve consensus on appropriate funding initiatives and communications. Oversee the creation and maintenance of prospect lists and strategize appropriate category for solicitation, i.e. direct mail, major gift or planned gift. Develop and manage department budget and perform periodic cost analysis. Provide timely progress reports to Leadership Team.

Supervise Development Associate and Data Coordinator staff. Support the Mission of the Sisters of Charity of New York. Job Requirements: Education & Experience: a Bachelor’s Degree, CFRE preferred and 5 years senior level in not-for-profit fundraising.

Skills: The director of Development will be an articulate leader able to create and implement innovative programs and ideas to educate, motivate, inform and inspire donors and others to meet the Congregation’s funding needs. Hands on familiarity with direct mail, grants management, planned giving, special events; data base management systems (Raiser’s Edge) and marketing and communications skills. Qualities: The Director must possess the ability to communicate the mission, vision and values in correspondence, presentations and formal proposals as well as compelling cases to individuals and groups.

The Director also possesses a demonstrated ability to think strategically, has a thorough knowledge of Catholic fundraising and culture. A passion for the mission must be developed. Please send requests for further information and/or resumes to hrinfo@scny.org March 2014
